Next
steps for the implementation of Goods and Service Tax (GST)
Moving
a step closer to the implementation of GST from July 1, the GST Council cleared
two draft legislations—the /central GST and Integrated GST—in its March 4 meeting in New Delhi. A look at the next steps
required to meet the deadline:
·
The GST council will consider the
draft of the State GST (SGST) and Union Territory GST law in its next meeting
on 16 March
· All the bills will be taken to the Union
Cabinet for its approval.
· The bills, with the exception of the state
GST bill, will be tabled in Parliament for its vote.
· The SGST bill will go to state legislative
assemblies for approval.
· Once the bills are voted through in Parliament,
the GST network will start issuing GST IDs to taxpayers.
· Having approved all the draft laws, the GST
council will start work on fitment of goods and services into the various tax
rates.
